This work offers an evocative abstract interpretation of the famous wind-sculpted iron sandstone rock formations and the intricate lace-like patterns of sand pellets left by Bubbler Crabs found along Broome’s Cable Beach. Using uniquely hand-crafted gel print made collage papers to capture the essence of these natural phenomena, viewers are invited to notice the subtle ‘hidden’ details of these features and reflect on the timeless beauty of the natural world. The title invites viewers to also reflect on the symbiosis between the colours and contours of the red-orange rocks and the black-and-white sand patterns, which seem to depend on and intertwine with each other. Metaphorically, this can be taken as suggesting that true beauty or a complete ecosystem – and even life itself – requires the harmonious coexistence of different, seemingly disparate contrasting forces: between the permanent, rigid, and durable elements of life and the temporary, intricate, and fleeting elements of life.
