Our contemporary world has become shaped and defined by extreme climatic events. These events have combined to craft the land by disrupting what the Ancient Greeks believed were the four elements of everything: earth, water, air and fire. The organic images depicted in this work have been inspired by the uniquely patterned Zebra rock (which has an extraordinary geological history that is yet to be explained) and found only in the Kununurra district in the East Kimberley region of WA, the charred remains of eucalyptus trees after being ravaged by bush fires, and the deposits of mud that lay on nature’s reclaimed riverbeds following the deluge of unprecedent rainfalls across river plains as the waters recede. Although climatic events are terrifying, they stand as a potent reminder of the impermanency of things and the need for all of us to be responsible stewards of the land and the precious life forms that it sustains.
