This work is inspired by stalactites, natural limestone formations that hang from the ceilings of caves. These icicle-shaped deposits form when water dissolves overlying limestone then re-deposits calcium carbonate along the ceilings or floors of underlying caves. These sculptures of natures can take thousands and hundreds of thousand of years to form. In literature, stalactites have been used as metaphors for hanging ideas or hopes, while in music, they have inspired compositions that evoke the sense of mystery and wonder.
