Inspired by vintage European film posters, L'affare Meena casts Victorian Artists Society model Meena as the lead in a charming comedy that exists only in the viewer's imagination. The painting combines my love of portraiture with a long-standing interest in vintage book covers, typography and graphic design, using text to suggest a story beyond the image. Like a favourite old film or well-worn paperback, it invites us to imagine the characters, the plot, and perhaps even the comments that might be made by iconic film reviewers Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton.
