Exhibition Opening 29 March 7pm
Location: Frater, McCubbin & Hammond Galleries
The highly anticipated Select exhibitions showcase VAS member artists working across all mediums, with the strongest works selected to be exhibited throughout the upper galleries and eligible for peer votes toward December’s $17,000 major prize. Each of the three Select Exhibitions across the year also offers a $1,500 first prize.
There is no overarching theme for the Autumn Select—rather, the focus is on presenting the very best of what VAS artists have to offer. As the selection process becomes increasingly competitive, the Autumn Select promises to be a celebration of the diverse and dynamic talent within the VAS community.
The Judge for the VAS Autumn Select Exhibition was Lisa Wang. Melbourne based artist and art teacher, Lisa paints in both oils and watercolour. She is a member of the VAS and the WSV, and the Vice President of the Watercolour Society of Victoria between 2019-2022. Lisa has held 8 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions. She enjoys working with an extensive variety of subjects, but portraits and wildlife are her favourite. Her confident brush work, use of colour and ability to capture light making her paintings unique and highly sought after by art lovers and collectors world-wide.

Sunday 13th April, from 1pm
Join us for a demonstration of oil painting focusing on texture and detail with award winning artist Gwendoline Krumins VAS.
Gwendoline’s subject matter has usually originated from inspirations of overseas travel and portraiture but has developed into observing windows closer to home during lockdowns. Solace and creativity came from surrounding subjects whilst walking each day noticing the gardens evolving through the seasons. Gwendoline has won numerous awards, including the 2021 Artist of the Year, commendations, and has judged many art exhibitions.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
