As part of my series on trees and following a road trip through Central Queensland. The title Strange Fruit Boabs came to mind after I saw a contemporary performance by the troupe Strange Fruit. Their athletic choreography of swaying in synchronisation on top of tall flexible poles, with vaudevillian antics was enthralling. I intentionally muted the values in this work to create a phenomenon of mystery with an eerie evening light. Boab trees, like the contemporary troupe are both splendidly absurd. Strange Fruits Boabs was painted on Arches cold pressed 300g watercolour paper using Daniel Smith professional watercolour paints, and presented with a double mount in a contemporary shadow box charcoal wooden frame.
