This self-portrait was worked directly from my studio mirror. Portraits I admire most often show the hands of the sitter; gesture and pose telling us much more about the person than face alone. This added a degree of complexity to the task, and also to the composition. The background of studio shelf and wall refers to my other work in still life. I'm pleased with the result.
