I found these rhododendrons in a garden in the hills to the east of Melbourne, on an overcast day in October. Shaded by foliage above, the white blooms took on the purples and greys reminiscent of the hills themselves. I wanted to capture the subtle shifts of tone I saw that day. Rhododendrons don't last well once cut, so I worked quickly as flowers fell to the table. The birds decorating the large Chinese ginger jar I placed them in seem ready to move upwards...
