I was struck by how colourless this stretch of farmland was rendered by the low winter light, and cover of frost. I was out walking, and fortunately had taken my small sketchbook, so was able to note the composition. As it was very cold, I took advantage of iphone photographs to examine and record the monochrome and bare stillness of the landscape later in the studio.
