This abstract painting is an expressionist evocation of nights spent at Wooyung Nature Reserve in Northern New South Wales, lighting bonfires on the beach all night. Though not specifically figurative the painting uses blues, greens and whites to suggest waves while dark earth colours and orange and red hues suggest fire. The work is typical of the way I've been painting for the last ten years: gestural brushwork, impasto paint application and a process of letting go of the realist control I was trained in.
