Ocean Spirit is part of a new series of abstract paintings drawing inspiration from the Northern Rivers in New South Wales. The painting process involves an almost unconscious, rapid application of paint where I do not plan. Rather, I suspend formal understanding of painting gained from 20 years of landscape, still life and portraiture to allow unconscious revelations of light, form and colour gleaned from extensive travels in the area.
The paint is applied gesturally and impasto.
