‘Parramatta Figtree’ is part of a series of pieces that I have been working on from when we were living for a short time next to the Parramatta river in Sydney. The gnarled twisted tree roots seemed to be in a continual battle with the riverbank rocks, seeking sustenance and stability for their massive branches above. Early morning light would frequently glisten on the wet surfaces adding a forever changing perspective to the slow-moving battle between organic and inorganic.
