One of the highlights of touring Rioja is the spectacular architecture, including Gehry's Titanium wonder at Maques de Rascal at Elciego; but my favourite was the Bodegas 'Ysios' winery at Laguardia. Santiago Calatrava's design mimics Sierra de Cantabria mountains behind, and the roof takes the shape of oak wine barrels; and perhaps the entrance design, with its reflective pool, is a nod to Spain's maritime colonial explorations.
