My love affair with Melbourne began when I purchased a small apartment in Port Melbourne to allow me to enjoy the cultural events offered in the city. In a few minutes I am in the city centre, so vibrant and so far removed from my residence in my isolated location on Flinders Island in Tasmania. From my tram window, I look at the skyscrapers, with the 'Starburst' building dominating the skyline. Life on the island is very quiet, my tiny village of less than 10 permanent islanders, oh so quiet. It is lovely to come to Melbourne and attend events, and enjoy the vibrancy of the city. The quirky skyscrapers, leaning this way and that, multi coloured and patterned, heritage buildings nestled in their shadow. I enjoy the city. And when I have had my fill, I fly off to my island contentment and walk the beach with my fur baby. And paint...Diptych, unframed. The two sides can be framed separately, placed close to retain wholeness of image.
