This work is from a series of artworks showing Hanging Rock in different colours and styles. They were made at the Summer Brushes art retreat run by Grampians Art, a not for profit organisation based in western Victoria. They show experimentation in collagraph printing. Cardboard was embossed with real plants (by running through printing press), then torn into long pieces and glued to a cardboard plate. The prints reminded me of the amazing Hanging Rock formation located in the Macedon Ranges area in the state of Victoria, Australia. These prehistoric, sacred volcanic rock formations are famous for their outstanding shapes and unusual ridges. Their mystery was made well-known by the book ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ by Joan Lindsay, a film based on the book by Peter Weir, and 2018 drama TV series. The enigma of the place reminded me of the mystique I found in printing process, there is always an element of surprise and unpredictability.
