Port Phillip Bay was created using layers handmade paints from meticulously ground and filtered earth and rocks sourced from Bayside and charcoal along with wood ash partly collected from remnants of bushfire ravaged Victorian native forests. Mixed with binders to ensure adhesion and varnished for protection. The painting aims to transport the viewer to a timeless impressionistic vista of Port Philip Bay a scene could be 60,000 thousand years ago or today. The use of locally sourced paint materials imbues the artwork with a connection to its depicted landscape honoring both the land itself and the ancestral custodians. Rays of light offer a beacon of hope symbolizing the collective journey we need to make towards stewardship and harmony to care for the bay for generations to come Hopefully the painting serves as a reminder of our shared heritage and the imperative to nurture and protect our environment.
