During the COVID lockdowns I did a lot of drawings of birds. Working with poet Johanna Bell on images related to her poems, I also explored the work of other poets. After doing lots of crow drawings, I cut out shapes from discarded artworks based on life drawings and played with compositions. This image came together, fell apart and came together again over time. It was only recently that I gave it a title, from Ted Hughes' poem 'Crow Hears Fate Knock On the Door'. It suddenly, for me, pulled the whole artwork together.
