I aim to, in a small way, memorialise the life, and preserve the beauty of this kookaburra. It was found already deceased but with no mark of death upon it, giving the impression it might reanimate at any moment. I wonder if human action played any part in the bird’s end. It may have been injured by a pet cat and succumbed to infection. Did we do this? I present the kookaburra simply, with leaves found by its body and a vase reminiscent in colour of its iridescent teal feathers. Large as life and stark against a light background, I hope to give the bird a presence and importance as an individual as well as a symbol of its species.
