This was inspired by a chrysanthemum, a traditional flower for Mother's Day in Australia, given to me by my children and forms the foil for this piece. The petals arranged like vigilant sentries encircling a baby swaddled in a nest safely at its heart. The composition radiates a sense of protection and nurturing, with each petal contributing to a gentle barrier that shelters and embraces. Warm, soft colours enhance the feeling of comfort and tenderness, inviting viewers into an intimate world of nurturing and connection. Subtle, hidden elements—a baby figure echoed in the petals and a Celtic symbol motif woven into the background—add layers of symbolism and invite closer inspection. This composition and layered meaning of this piece offers a visual meditation on the enduring strength, warmth, and protective love found in motherhood.
