Eric has a keen interest in portraying the human form. Portraiture serves as a means for him to explore emotions, expressions, and the intricacies of the human experience.
Eric also draws inspiration from the environment he is in and the expansive beauty of nature. Having a profound fondness for animals, birds are featured as his favourite subject for painting.
Eric works mainly in oil and watercolour. In oil, he exploits the scrumptious and buttery-nature of the paint and creates paintings in impasto style that are frequently completed in one session (i.e., alla prima). He loves the intricacy of watercolour and a sense of loosing control by letting the medium drives the outcome of the painting.
As an artist passionate for creative expression, Eric WH Chin infuses his artistic pursuits with sensibility and astute observation of his environment.
Eric holds a Bachelor degree (honours) and PhD in Chemical Engineering and he does not have formal training in art. He hones his skills predominately through self-discovery, experimentation, and active engagement in life drawing and plein air painting sessions.
