On Saturday night at the official opening, the President of the Victorian Artists Society, Mark Bagally FVAS announced the Hylton Mackley Artist of the Year Award, sponsored by the Mackley Family.
Mary Hyde won the Hylton Mackley Artist of the Year Award.
The prize money for 2024 is $12,000. In addition to the prize money the Artist of the Year received a trophy, a framed certificate, and an invitation to hold a solo exhibition in the Cato Gallery.
During the proceedings Mr Bagally also announced two President's Awards. The President’s Awards were presented to VAS Manager, Kari Lyon and VAS artist and member of staff, Sam Bruere.
President Mark Bagally said Kari Lyon was an exceptional manager and leader who had built a cohesive team and in no small way, contributed to the exponential increase in the core functions of the society and subsequent successes. He went to say, Sam Bruere has been a reliable “work horse” within the society for many years. His investment in and dedication to the society, particularly in the exhibitions space has been outstanding. He is absolutely reliable and has an amiable personality that makes him very popular figure at the VAS.
Both Kari and Sam are very worthy recipients of this award.
