Rolling in the Deep

Water gathers, breaks, and scatters light. Seen from above, the deep reveals itself in navy, cobalt, and teal, layered beneath white that erupts at the surface, the moment a wave surrenders itself. The layered blues and teals carry the weight of what lies beneath, while the white, breaking diagonally across the canvas, gives the eye somewhere to travel, the release the painting builds toward.The dark weight building and then releasing mirrors what moves beneath us psychologically, the pressure that gathers in the unseen depths of the self before it breaks into awareness. Drawing on Jungian and Gestalt understanding, the painting speaks to that moment when what has been submerged finally surfaces and is met, felt in the body first and then the mind. What scatters afterward catches the light, vast, layered, and magnificent, an image of release, surrender, and the relief that follows integration.
