Description

All things wet, wild or briny this term as we explore various marine themes through our drawings. Each theme will be worked on over a two week block, using a different drawing medium each time. Join the fun as we discover all the moods of the ocean, play on the beach, dig around in rock pools and observe a critter or two.

Themes we will explore:

  • Water techniques using charcoal. Explore the moods of water from mill pond calm to a raging tempest while learning to use and handle compressed and vine charcoal
  • Sea monsters in colour pencil. Have a bit of fun and indulge your imaginative side as we create a sea monster or two. (You may if you wish, prefer to draw a ‘real’ sea monster such as a squid or the like, the more frightening the better!)
  • The Age of Sail with fineliner pens. Focus on sailboats, ships of the line, shipwrecks and the like using inks. Perhaps a pirate ship might take your fancy?
  • Realistic sea creatures in graphite. Your choice of your favourite animal or bird that lives in, on, or near the sea.
  • People and the Sea. Your choice of medium. For this theme you are encouraged to explore our relationship with the ocean and how we interact with it. A human figure must be included in your composition; this might be children on the beach, a sunbaker, maybe sailors in action.
