Learn how to create a finished and professional looking artwork using the Indirect painting method and glazing technique with acrylic paint!
This workshop is designed to show students a step by step process specifically using the Indirect painting method. This method involves the artist applying layers of glaze onto a drawing or underpainting to subtly alter the colours and tones. Both the drawing and underpainting will be accurate, detailed and the light and dark areas will be established at the same time.
During the workshop, artists will undertake an exercise that will include:
Learning how to do a charcoal transfer of a drawing onto their art surface and seal it from smudging.
Add a pigmented wash to their artwork surface and outline to cancel out the white and soften the outline.
Using reference material, white paint and the same hue as the wash (but opaque), create a monochromatic underpainting to establish the different tones of light and dark, shadows and highlights to create depth and volume of their subject.
Using glazing medium gently apply a variety of mixed translucent colours over the top of the underpainting (aka. Glazing) so that shadows and highlights still show through.
Repeat the Glazing process until the subject appears fully formed and 3 dimensional.
Add small opaque highlights (details) to finish.
Please note this course is for artists aged 16-25 only.
