VAS SPRING SELECT EXHIBITION 2022

The Victorian Artists Society is pleased to present the annual Spring Exhibition featuring the Gordon Moffatt Award, sponsored by Gordon Moffatt AM, and the VAS Sculpture Award.

Gordon Moffatt AM continues to be a generous sponsor of the Victorian Artists' Society. He was Deputy Lord Mayor of Melbourne and not least, Victorian Artists' Society Treasurer for 10 years from 1981 to 1991.

The Spring exhibition will be judged by highly acclaimed artist and Twenty Melbourne Painters Society Group member, Amanda Hyatt.

The VAS Spring Exhibition features the Gordon Moffatt AM Spring Prizes for: 1st prize, $400, 2nd prize, $250, 3rd prize, $100, and the VAS Council Sculpture prizes for: Sculpture 1st prize, $150, Sculpture 2nd prize, $100.

The Exhibition is one of three Select Exhibitions held each year by the Victorian Artists Society in Autumn, Winter and Spring. Votes cast by exhibiting artists are used to decide the list of candidates for the Mavis Little Artist of the Year Award Exhibition at the end of the year.

A variety of artworks will be on display and for sale, showcasing the many talents of our artists. There will be works in pastel, watercolour, pencil, oil and sculpture.

Judge Amanda Hyatt

The Judge for this year's Spring Select Exhibition will be Amanda Hyatt.

Amanda is a tonal impressionist Alla Prima watercolourist, making every brushstroke matter, who also paints in oils. She believes that light and atmosphere are the key essentials for her art and doesn’t rely on colour. She uses a reduced, more muted colour palette and makes tone ‘do all the work’ rather than letting ‘colour get all the glory’.

Amanda has been described as a ‘Master Artist’ (Director of the Dalian Art Gallery, China), one of the ‘top seven en plein air Masters’ (L’Art de L’Aquarelle) and 'is now considered to be one of the most exciting and ground-breaking watercolour artists in the world' (APV Films 2019).
