Bacchas Marsh Artist Phil Roberts has been drawing throughout most of his life but began painting post pandemic and has been attending regular painting classes since 2021. Initially Phil's interest in painting was motivated by some significant life changes, this included his divorce and a new co-parenting situation. Painting became a way to fill a void and it is something he has thrown himself into. He has found art to be a positive and supportive environment, and something of an emotional outlet in what has been a stressful time.

Phil’s artistic journey is in a place of exploration where he is utilising acrylic painting, graphite, charcoal and pastel drawing to create emotionally provocative, warm and engaging images. His style and use of colour makes his work distinctive as it continues to develop and grow from strength to strength.

In 2022 he started entering shows and selling his work. Phil is curious and determined to find out how far he can take his art.

Outside of art Phil works full time as an archaeologist with a PhD and an MA in that field (... yes its Dr. Phil...), but previously he has worked as an engineer, outdoor education instructor and as a rifleman in the Australian Army.
