Location: Cato Gallery
The centrepiece of this exhibition is inspired by Lake George in South Australia, its raw beauty and tranquil ambiance. Kemp's bond with the lake is evident in each piece, as the artist captures the essence of Lake George through these delicate and expressive monotypes.
The focus exhibition presents a series of monotypes that evoke the quiet majesty of Lake George. Each piece highlights different aspects of the lake and its surroundings, from the shimmering surface of the water at dawn to the soft, muted tones of the landscape at dusk. The artist's use of tone, subtle colour and texture invites viewers to immerse themselves in the scene, offering a meditative and contemplative experience.
The main gallery space then continues to take us on a journey through various parts of the Australian landscape, each piece telling a different story, remembering a different moment in time.
This exhibition is a tribute to the profound connection between the artist and the natural world. Through the medium of monotypes, the artist invites us to see the landscape through her eyes, while encouraging us to reflect on our own experiences and make our own connections. It is an invitation to pause, reflect, and appreciate the subtle magnificence of this beautiful land.
Monotypes are a unique form of printmaking that allows for a single, original impression to be created on paper. Unlike other printmaking techniques, monotypes offer a level of spontaneity and unpredictability that often results in one-of-a-kind creations.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
