Eugene von Nagy

Born and raised in Melbourne to an artistic but unconventional family. I studied painting in the 90's, established a small gallery in the early 2000's and ran a life drawing group pre-covid. I have many years experience teaching painting and drawing from my studio

I believe everything of interest in the universe, comes from the interplay of contrasting elements; such as light and dark, matter and space, hot and cold, etc. etc. And beauty is the harmonic arrangement, or balance, of contrasts. I'm particularly interested in painting, regardless of subject, that resonates directly with how we see. Especially impressionist and tonal realist painting styles

My main written influences/education include Max Meldrum's The Science of Appearances, John F Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting, Richard Schmid's Alla Prima, and Leonardo Da Vinci's Treatise on Painting

Currently available for art tutoring and also commissions in oil paint and other mediums
