Born into an unconventional artistic family and trained at the VCA, my practice is rooted in a lifetime in the visual arts. Having operated a gallery and facilitated life drawing for years, I have developed a deep interest in Tonal realism, though I am not confined by its traditions.
I view the ‘Science of Appearances’ not as an end, but as a discipline for emotional expression. My work is a complex puzzle for me: I seek to compose a balance of opposing formal elements which resonates with the visual system, opening a pathway for narrative and feeling
My approach is grounded in a direct, freehand methodology. Whether working from life or memory, I demand a clarity of intent that ensures each gesture remains a definitive response to the subject. For me, painting is a disciplined hunt for the essential; the point where the mechanics of vision meets the depth of human experience.
Based in Melbourne, I am available for fine art tutoring and commissions in oil and other media
