By studying the works of master landscape artists, students will learn a method to quickly capture the essential elements of a landscape, just as they would be required to when working in natural light conditions encountered en plein air.
During the workshop students will learn to develop a small sketch into a refined and complete work. The method that will be taught is an invaluable tool that students will be able to use for further self development by studying works of masters, working from references and from painting directly from nature.
Topics will cover studying composition and arrangement of shapes, establishing accurate tonal value relationships, use of warm and cool colour relationships, mixing colours, finding a harmonious colour palette, refinement of form and edges, and use of paint to portray textures and details.
The course is available for artists with any level of experience, however a basic knowledge of using oil paints is recommended.
