This 5-week course offers a focused investigation into light, volume, and form through the medium of watercolour pencil on a prepared black gesso ground.

Working on postcard-sized studies, artists will engage with the dynamics of tone, contrast, and layering to explore how luminosity emerges from a dark surface.

Emphasis will be placed on material handling, surface preparation, you’ll develop skills in layering, blending, and capturing contrast — transforming a dark surface into vibrant, illuminated artworks. Suitable for both emerging and experienced artists, this course encourages thoughtful experimentation and process-driven image-making.
