A painting inspired by the fading light in Autumn, at Beaujeu, France. It is an investigation of the concept of past, present and future through tone and colour. The brightly coloured leaves stand out as the present in its transitory moment, before either the darkness blanks them out or their life period expires. The future figure takes the lighter colour from the moment and takes it forward into the future emergence in the light of the new day. The dark paling fence acts as a barrier to the dark woods that form the past, with only occasional flickers of light to be seen or understood. The visual representation of these complex ideas is a mainstay of the work of the artist.
