For international women day I painted the statue of the iconic feminist activist Zelda D’Aprano by talented sculptor Jennifer Mann, which was erected in 2023 in Victoria Road, Carlton -
In 1969 Zelda chained herself to the Arbitration Court in protest when a case for gender pay gap failed.
later she founded with others (Women Action Committee ) and (women liberation center ) in little Latrobe street in1972. Earned a degree in Law and an OA, died in 2018.
In a recent report in 2024, by (workplace gender equality agency) the problem remains in Australia as most industries have a pay gap of 20-30% in favour of men! A relevant issue for the 21st century indeed !
