Zane Reynolds Artist Portfolio

My name is Zane, and I am a painter and visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia. 

My work often draws from pure feeling and experience. I express my ideas through puzzle-like paintings to put the viewer in a sort of labyrinth. I like to explore fragmented and disordered scenes; the simplification of elements creates confusion, and through architectural-like design, the elements seemingly fade into one another. I like there to be a certain darkness, a strange feeling of doom, where these experiences don’t last and feel fleeting and dream-like.

A fascination with ideas such as the uncanny and emplotment remains central to my work, and I draw inspiration from literature and philosophy.

I like to focus on motifs of nocturnal bar scenes, quietly observed moments, love and heartbreak, and psychological solitude. A sort of ungraspable truth, a reality that resists clarity, where nothing can be fully held or resolved. Each painting becomes an exploration of mood, memory, and meaning, and composition and colour evolve with each subject, guided more by intuition than any fixed method.
