Born in Malaysia in 1929 Nathan came to Australia in 1949 and commenced training at the RMIT. He taught at the Phillip Institute of Technology from 1964 becoming its Art Education Department Head in 1975. Nathan works in oils but more frequently acrylics, watercolour and ink on paper. His expressionistic landscape subjects include the Wilcannia Plains, rugged Mt Buffalo, the watery expanses of the Coorong and the wilderness of Kakadu, NT. Nathan was the 1993 VAS Artist of the Year.
