What We Hold Dear explores the personal and political dimensions of separation, identity and belonging. This painting depicts a dear friend Negin Sadeghian, an Iranian Australian woman. The motif of my own design evokes core archetypes of sun, the earth and human society. We all follow the rhythms of the sun, are fed and sheltered by the earth and have a deep need to belong somewhere with others. The pattern speaks to fundamental interconnection between humans.
