Valerie Laver is a visual artist who enjoys working across watercolour, oil, acrylic, ink, and mixed media, as well as creating small resin jewellery pieces and artefacts. She has a strong love of colour and intuitive mark-making, with nature continually influencing her work. Her paintings tend to evolve slowly through layering, experimentation, and gentle revision, allowing ideas to emerge over time rather than being tightly planned.
A largely self-taught artist, Valerie is always curious and actively seeks out workshops and classes to keep learning and refining her skills. Through her involvement in the Nillumbik Artists Open Studios program, her practice has grown and naturally led her into teaching watercolour classes for beginner and intermediate painters — a role she enjoys for the way students challenge, inspire, and keep her own practice fresh.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
