'I was born in East Germany and arrived in Australia in 1964. I decided to make art part of my life. In 1969 I joined the VAS and won the applied chemical prize in that year. I also won the Deputy Lord Mayors Award in 1999 the Udine award in 2002, and also won the Winter and Spring exhibitions in 2007.
In 1975 I completed a Dip. Fine Art at RMIT and B.Ed in 1975. During 1975-76 I held two one man shows, the first at VAS, the other at the Hawthorn City Art gallery. Both exhibitions received enthusiastic critiques from "The Herald” art critic Alan McCulloch. They helped me being awarded a DAAD scholarship to the art academies in Düsseldorf and Munich. It was very disappointing. Concept art had taken over the western art scene, all J Beuys. In my opinion an over curated intellectual blurb. S Sontag “interpretation” is the revenge of the intellect upon art.

On my return to Australia I started full time teaching, applied art at RMIT and rediscovered the Australian landscape working from memory. The large paintings with their straight horizons, blue skies and high clouds were recollections of the Wimmera-Mallee from trips two decades earlier. During the 80’s I held 3 very successful exhibitions at the “Australian gallery”, with Artbank purchasing 12 of these works.
In the year 2000 I resigned from teaching to paint and draw full time. I also spare a little time to read philosophy, mostly on art and aesthetics. Pythagoras and the divinity of proportion and numbers, Plato’s allegory of the cave, what constitutes (visual) reality, Nietzsche’s dichotomy of Apollo-reason, clarity and logic, Dionysus- instinct, intuition and emotion, both necessary in varying degrees to make a work of art. Occasionally I teach small groups or 1:1 in my studio.'
