Bronze on timber plinth.

Born in Victoria in 193, Stanley Hammond studied in Melbourne and during his travels overseas in the 1960s. He assisted Paul Montford (Cat #55) in creating the Shrine of Remembrance and his own commissions included a post WW2 replacement statue at the WW! Australian War Memorial at Mont Saint- Quentin in France completed in 1971. Stanley Hammond was VAS president from 1972 to 1977 and was also a member of a number of other sculptor associations in Victoria. In 1974 was awarded an MBE for services to sculpture and the arts. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia and the Australian War Memorial Canberra.
