Nornie Gude trained at the Ballarat Technical Art School from 1931 to1936 and at the National Gallery School from 1936 to 1939 studying with Sidney Nolan and Charles Bush. She was the first woman to win the National Gallery Students Travelling Scholarship. Nornie met her future husband Laurence Scott Pendlebury while studying together at the National Gallery School. In 1958 Nornie went on a study tour of UK and Europe where her work was described as ‘slick and clever’ by noted British critic and artist Harold Brocklebank Herbert. Nonie Gude’s work is represented in the NGV, Parliament House Canberra and the Art Gallery of WA as well as regional collections in Ballarat, Geelong, Castlemaine and Bendigo.
