I have always been drawn to the timelessness of the still life. I wanted to create an image in the quiet, contemplative style of classical still life, but with objects which are relevant to the here and now. These materials, things I use daily, are symbols of life and vitality. The 'death-mask' is in fact a cast of my own face; the artist and his craft, the dead actually alive. The enduring power of the genre.
