The juxtaposition of the rubber duck standing along side the Russian dolls symbolises a sense of displacement or not belonging within a certain cultural or social setting. The duck's unconventional appearance and playful nature seeks to highlight the idea of being an outsider or not conforming to established norms and expectations.
