Donald Cameron was an accomplished painter, engraver, author and teacher. Initially an engraver for the Commonwealth bank he studied portraiture at the NGV School under Wiliam Dargie between 1951and 1952 and at the Slade School in London in the 1960s. Donald first entered the Archibald prize in 1952 and was a finalist thirteen times. He designed sixteen Australian stamps including the Christmas stamps of 1957 and 1958. Donald taught at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and was appointed Head of its Art Department in 1969. Between 1972 and 1977 he was the Head of the Art Department at Scotch College Melbourne. Donald held many exhibitions of his oils, watercolours and etchings and his work is represented in Victorian provincial collections.
