Joyce McGrath was born in 1925 and studied drawing at the RMIT under Harold Freeman and painting in the studio of Amalie and A.D. Colquhoun. Joyce’s work focussed on portraiture. She won the Alice Bale Art award in 1990 and her commissioned portraits hang in the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Uni and Melbourne Grammar School. In 2002 Joyce was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. She was a VAS Council Member and exhibited with the Melbourne society of Painters and Sculptors.
