Initially I felt compelled to paint Pierrette for her striking appearance. But inevitably it was her personality which took centre stage. Pierrette calls herself a 'philosophical crone'. A woman of deep thought with an open mind, an artist and writer, it was a privilege to paint a sitter so full of stories, humour, wisdom and playfulness. Immigrating to Australia as a child, Pierrette says she has never felt more connected to any other place, and is 'as Australian as anyone'. Pierrette has a deep gratitude for all she has and an overflowing love for the land of this country she calls home.
