A lone tree rises from the rocky ground, its canopy standing out against the warm reds and ochres of the landscape. I was drawn to the contrast between the hard stone and the softer shapes of the foliage. This painting is inspired by time spent exploring the Gundabooka national park. I wanted to capture the colours and textures of the landscape, from the dry creek bed and exposed rock to the greens of the vegetation. The contrast between these elements was what first inspired me.
