Traveling through Australia, Spain, and Morocco, I was struck by the shared presence of dry, sun-drenched landscapes that shape daily life in each region. Yet within this climatic similarity, I discovered a rich tapestry of contrasting cultures, architectural styles, and traditions. From Morocco’s intricate courtyards and vibrant souks to Spain’s Moorish-European fusion and Australia’s blend of European, Indigenous and contemporary design, each place offered a unique lens on adaptation and beauty. These experiences inspired me to create a solo exhibition exploring how environment and heritage intertwine. My work reflects the harmony and tension between climate and culture across these diverse lands.
Nina Volk is one of Australia’s most compelling contemporary watercolourists, recognised nationally and internationally for her atmospheric, emotionally resonant works. Rising with remarkable speed, she has become known for her instinctive tonal sensitivity and her ability to paint the world not as it appears, but as it is felt. Her paintings are immersive experiences—quiet light, shifting air, and the emotional presence of place—instantly recognisable for their depth and clarity. Collectors respond to this authenticity, and her works are held in private collections across Australia and abroad.
Nina is President of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and has served as a judge for major exhibitions since 2024. She was invited by Joseph Zbukvic as an exhibiting artist at The Museo della Carta e della Filigrana - the Fabriano Art Prize 2026 and has represented Australia internationally, including as a guest artist at the VII International Biennial of New Techniques in Watercolour in Spain.
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
