Explore the handling of pen and ink!
We'll cover how to achieve tonal values through line, dots, and washes by combining line groups together. Using fineliners, brushes, sponges etc. will allow you to achieve varied effects. Methods will vary from freeform to controlled mark making.
Beginning with a series of practice mark-making using various skills, the class will then explore composition. You'll be able to use one or more of the techniques we explored in the morning to commence a final piece in the second half of the day.
Students may bring their own photo references which inspire them (preferably on an iPad or printed copy – it is not advised to use a small phone screen), otherwise references will be supplied.
This workshop will cover:
Showing various mark making techniques drawn in a slow deliberate manner, alongside a fast, quick method, using fineliners
Rendering in fineliner using various pressures
Exploring diluting ink and applying washes with brushes
Using splatter techniques and sponging
We would like to pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which our building stands, their leaders, past, present and emerging.
