The Wurundjeri are the traditional custodians of the Melbourne region and the Yarra River Valley. Their name directly translates to "Manna Gum People," derived from the Woiwurrung language words wurun (the Manna Gum tree, Eucalyptus viminalis) and djeri (a grub found in or near the tree).
