I visited The Great Otway National Park for the first time in May 2023 and fell in love with its wonders! The tall eucalypt forests, waterfalls, dense fern gullies and giant beech trees have fed my creativity with forms and colours. Since then, I went back multiple times to draw, to paint and to simply breathe there.
My works begin as plain air drawings, simple lines in pen on paper and they are developed later in the studio. My choice of colour is emotional, invented and mostly abstracted from reality. Once I’m away from the location, I revisit the place in my head and remember how that landscape made me feel and I let the colours come into my work. In a way, I attempt to discover and share my interior psychological terrain through painting the exterior one.
This painting is the first from a series that is a personal narrative of how I lost my “self” in this place, where nature unfolds at every step, to connect with the essence. Moments that I shared with the landscape alone. Additionally, this painting is also my first experiment painting with my non-dominant hand.
An original one-off painting. Signed on the back. Comes with a certificate of authenticity
