Thomas Bamber was born in Melbourne in 1949. He was largely self taught, with a little casual tuition gained at Prahan Technical College. He joined the VAS in 1976 and in 1978 held his first solo exhibition here. He won the Artist of the Year Award in that year and the following year won the Lord Mayor’s Prize.
